Self-love is in the air and admittedly it’s something we all kind of… suck at. It’s far too easy to put all our energy into caring for others and coincidentally shoving our own self-care habits to the bottom of the to-do list. I’m totally guilty of this. So, to kick start some sort of self-love routine, I’ve compiled a list of some my favourite ways to practice self-care and hopefully there’s something on this list that’ll inspire you to do the same!
- Go for a walk or get active.
I know, I know. Everyone recommends this, but there’s good reason for it. You don’t necessarily need to pump out a heavy sweat sesh, or try to balance on your head, just a quick walk outside in the sunshine can lift your mood tremendously. Trust me with this one.
- Binge watch a good tv show.
Ooooh yes, this is a good one. Sometimes one of the best things you can do is curl up on the couch with a hot drink and a cosy blanket and zone out to a great show. Some of my faves at the moment are Dynasty and Suits. I’d recommend watching something with an easy storyline so you don’t get too hyped up by flesh-eating monsters and Night King’s.
- Listen to podcasts.
By now, I think most people have jumped aboard the podcast train, but just in case you haven’t… get onto it! There’s so much amazing, free information out there your little ears need to hear. Learning new skills or educating yourself has sooo many benefits, and when you find something you’re actually interested in, you’re genuinely excited to learn about it! So, start filling your head with interest facts and podcasts, and feel yourself becoming more inquisitive and excitable in the process.
- Set yourself practical goals
Have you ever heard of SMART goals? It’s an acronym that helps with realistic goal setting.
S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Achievable
R – Realistic
T – Timely
By running your goals through this little activity, you’ll find out whether your goals are practical or not. Setting practical goals will more often lead to success and motivation to achieve more! Goals that are the equivalent of talking dinosaurs just ain’t viable (unless you’re still vibing Land Before Time, then in that case… anything is possible).
- Eat food you love.
Fancy a slice of pizza? Just eat it! I’ve taken inspiration from a book called ‘Just Eat It’, and would definitely recommend the read if you love to snuggle up with a good book! It’s filled with lots of amazing information and encourages you to eat food you love without the stress or ‘guilt’ that we’re often told to feel when it comes to food.
- Try to meditate.
This is something I recommend but also have trouble with myself. As a biz owner it can be hard to settle your mind and just give in to your thoughts. Even if meditation ain’t your thing, it’s still fun to try every now and then.
- Go technology free.
Don’t hate me… but giving yourself a tech-ban throughout the day can be so beneficial. Whether it’s setting restrictions on the time of day when you’re allowed to access your social media, or turning your phone on aeroplane mode for periods throughout the day, you’ll slowly find yourself less dependent on what’s happening online and the good stuff that’s happening right in front of you.
- Have a bath.
Honestly, just do it.
- Drink a gin and tonic.
This is a personal fave… but a good gin and tonic does wonders for my self-care routine. Speaking of… did I ever tell you how I came up with the name Tonik? That might have to be a blog post for another day…
